Three More Habits You Need to be a Successful Blogger

December 14th, 2009 · No Comments

Lighten up

A blog is not a specialist journal nor an academic thesis. Keep your material light and easy to read. Include a touch of humour and above all else speak with your voice. Be yourself. That is the benefit of blogging. It allows you to be yourself. In fact a good blog only works if the owner of the blog is truly authentic.

Brand yourself

In line with using your own voice to write your blog is the idea of branding yourself. If you are hoping to become the authority on a particular topic then stick with that. Build your brand up by not only keeping your blog on topic but by supporting your blog with what you do on social media sites. What you talk about on Twitter or Facebook must support the brand that you are wanting to develop.

If possible brand yourself outside the online world and try for some exposure on other media platforms. You might even want to attend conferences and trade shows on your particular field of expertise.

Write well

This does not mean that you need to attend journalism school to improve your writing skills. What it does mean though is that you check for spelling mistakes, work on your grammar a little and use good vocabulary.

As much as you want to speak to your audience in an easy to understand manner you don’t want to use slang or offensive language.

Above all make sure that the information is solid. Your readers are coming to you either for information or to be entertained.

Acquire these six habits and you will find that you have a good chance of becoming a successful blogger. Also remember to read other blogs especially those by successful bloggers. Be constantly alert to what’s going on and keep on learning.
